James P. O'Dell, 73, a Lakefield Township resident, formerly of Coleman, died at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 29, 2012 while under the care of Northwoods Home Health and Hospice.
Born in Flint on October 24, 1938 he was a son of the late Percy and Florice (Laney) O'Dell. Raised in North Bradley, James graduated in the class of 1957 from Coleman High School. On September 12, 1959 he married the former Monna Jean Searight in Coleman. James was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1964. James was employed at Dow Corning Corporation from 1958 until his retirement as a Master Scheduler in 1994. While in Coleman he enjoyed farming. Upon Monna's retirement, they moved to the Upper Peninsula to enjoy hunting, fishing, golfing, home repair, boating and especially summers with their grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Donald Lee O'Dell.
Survivors include his wife Monna of Lakefield Twp., son and daughter-in-law Chad (Melissa)O'Dell; daughter Sheila Schulz; a sister, Connie Scott; a brother, Douglas O'Dell and granddaughters Kayla, Kelsey, and Kalley Schulz; and grandsons Avian and Alexander O'Dell.
According to his wishes, cremation services have been accorded and no local services are planned. There will be memorial services and a graveside inurnment held near his home in Coleman by O'Laughlin Funeral Home in Coleman at a later date.
