Lifelong Newberry resident, Miriam E. Erickson, 89, died Sunday evening May 13, 2012 at the Newberry Assisted Living Community.
Born September 23, 1922 in Newberry, daughter of the late V.A. & Ida (Somppi) Kauramaki, Miriam was a 1940 graduate of Newberry High School and, on January 7, 1944, married Oscar Erickson. In addition to being a homemaker raising her family, she was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Luce County D.S.S. for five years. Miriam was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and former member of the ladies aide and quilting club. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and baking.
In addition to her parents, Miriam is preceded in death by her husband Oscar on April 19, 1984 and her brother Chester Kauramaki in 1985.
Survivors include her sons Frans (Kyong) of Marquette and Mark (Joan) of Plymouth; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sibling Jane (Thomas) Kangas of Bremerton, WA; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Saturday May 19, 2012 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Reverend Jesse Brown, of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.
